5 Horror Movies You Can’t Miss

October, it’s the month of Halloween. Who does not love Halloween? But do you know why Halloween is celebrated? Halloween is originally a Pagan tradition to “repel” ghosts by wearing costumes.

Though Halloween was used to ward off ghosts, today, we celebrate Halloween for fun and to enjoy all the spookiness the world has to offer. Although many people may not wear costumes, they definitely will start to browse for some good horror movies.

Here are the 5 best horror movies that you can’t miss this Halloween.

1. The Witch (2015)

If you are a fan of watching horror movies with no jump scare, this one is for you. As aligned to what is Halloween actually is, let’s take it to the origin of Paganism.

The Witch is a horror movie written by Robert Eggers which is actually more to the show than meets the eye. The movie tells a story of a pious Christian family who’s shaken by Lucifer and witch’s spell. Focusing on Thomasin as the main character, you can feel the horror and sadness on how her family treats her.

2. Hereditary (2018)

Similar to The Witch, Hereditary is also a horror movie without any jumpscare. However, the movie is pretty gory and I suggest you don’t eat anything while watching the movie. Seriously.

Hereditary tells a story of a family who lost their grandma, who is also secretly a cult leader. The spirit of King Paimon, that this cult worships is searching for a new host to live in as it lived in the grandma’s body. As the movie progresses, you can see how the cult purposely orchestrate everything that the family experience that it is terrifying.

3. Joker (2019)

This movie is the latest addition to all must-watch movie list. If you think that this movie only serves teenagers with their fantasy superhero dreams, you are wrong. Although Joker’s world still revolves around DC Universe, the movie is terrifying and depressing without having to involve mystical beings.

In this movie, you will learn how did Joker become the crazily cruel person that he is. You may also notice how deep this movie is and the message revolving mental illness is quite strong.

4. A Quiet Place (2018)

In A Quiet Place, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt managed to induce a sense of unending terror throughout the movie. It is a movie without any backing soundtrack as the story also includes a very minimum dialogue.

This movie is also telling a story about one family who survived post apocalyptic invasion. They need to survive the attack of multiple creatures that are attracted by sounds.

5. Us (2019)

Ever wonder what if you have a doppelganger? “Us” is a good movie that enliven your imagination about doppelganger. The movie tells us that each of us have “another evil version” of ourselves that lives in parallel with us.

And what if, one day, the “gate” that brings us and our doppelgangers together opened? We might have a chance to meet an evil version of ourselves. Pretty interesting premise yes?
